China - Hong Kong Railway Museum

Situated in the town center of Tai Po Market, the Hong Kong Railway Museum is an open-air museum occupying some 6,500 square meters converted from the old Tai Po Railway Station. Erected in 1913, the station building features the pitched roof of traditional Chinese building. It was declared a monument in 1984, refurbished and opened as a museum in 1985.

Shenyang Railway Steam Locomotive Exhibition Hall is located in the north of Sujiatun Railway Section of Shenyang City occupying 8,000 square meters. There are two railways in it used to park exhibits. Sixteen antiquated steam locomotive which from America, Japan, Soviet, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Germany and China respectively were collected in the Exhibition Hall. Being one of the Shenyang's tourism sceneries, the Exhibition Hall has numerous visitors from America, Japan, England and China since it's opening in 1984.

India - Mysore Rail Museum

The Railway Museum at Mysore, the first regional Rail Museum in India was set up in 1979. The Museum sets a good pattern for regional display and has good collections. A circular gallery called Chamundi Gallery has interesting collections of photographs, series of paintings showing the development of the Railways and signaling signs right from its inception. The adjacent building named Sri Ranga Pavilion houses two Royal coaches that formed part of the Royal train of Maharaja of Mysore reflecting the era of bygone splendour. In outdoor exhibits are the various locomotives, coaches and rail motor car. The star attraction of the museum is the battery operated mini train especially for the children. It is located on K.R.S road in the heart of the city opposite to the Central Food Technology Research and Training Institute.

The custodion of the glorious heritage of the INDIAN RAILWAYS was inaugurated on the 1st of February, 1977. The first of its kind in the country, this unique museum covers a land area of over 10 acres and comprises of a elegantly designed octagonal building housing nine display galleries and a large open area laid out to simulate a Railway yard. With constant emphasis on improvements and additions, this Museum can now boast of being one of the finest Rail Museums in the world and a very popular tourist attractions of the capital. On an average, this Museum is visited by arround 1000 visitors daily. The indoor gallery in the museum is devoted to the display of various small exhibits, working and dummy models, coat of arms, records, historical documents, photographs and charts depicting the developement and growth of railways in India since their inception.

Indonesia - Ambarawa Railway Museum

The museum was established in the 1970s primarily to preserve a wide selection of the steam locomotives which were then coming to the end of their useful lives on the 3ft 6in (1067mm) gauge railways of the Indonesian State Railway (the then Perusahaan Negara Kereta-Api, PNKA). These are parked in the open air next to the original station, originally a transhipment point between the 4ft 8½in gauge branch from Kedungjati to the north-east and the 3ft 6in gauge line onward towards Yogyakarta via Magelang to the south. It is still possible to see that the two sides of the station were built to accommodate different size trains.

Taman Mini is 'Indonesia in Miniature' and is a large park on the outskirts of Jakarta. It features exhibits from the diverse islands which make up this huge archipelago and of prime interest to railway enthusiasts is a transport museum with a railway collection. The museum was opened to preserve the history of the steam locomotive, a major part of transportation history passing on the story of the steam locomotive to future generations. The many exhibitions at the museum allow visitors to experience and learn about the railway history and railway culture of Japan. The museum features a fan shaped locomotive house with an impressive array of steam locomotives, a turntable used to turn the gigantic locomotives, a steam locomotive in actual operation on the museum's own exhibition track, numerous displays packed with information about steam locomotives and there is even the former Nijo Station House which takes visitors back to the days of the Meiji.

In Order to leave a record of the history of the railway for future generations,in 1921, the 50th anniversary of the founding of the railway in Japan, the Railway Agency founded the first railway museum in Japan. This is the Transportation Museum in Tokyo; the museum features various exhibits like early steam locomotives, and is operated by the East Japan Railway Company. The second railway museum in Japan, the "Modern Transportation Museum" was founded in 1962, reflecting the rapid technological progression made by the railway at that time and emphasizing the future of the railway. Over the years, the museum has also come to Focus on the historical and cultural aspects of the railway, and today is operated by the West Japan Railway Company.

South Korea - Seoul Railway Museum

Located inside Seoul Station, the Seoul Railway Museum presents several exhibits showing Korea's train-related history. Opened in April 1987, it includes scenes and equipment from the first railway line to modern subways and has a special exhibit for the current construction of the high speed rail line.The museum contains over 500 items in 6 different areas, including maps of Korea's railway, sample tickets from different time periods, tools used in the construction and maintenance of tracks, equipment for monitoring trains, miniature scale replicas of major or unusual train stations, and clothing worn by railway officials.
