The Coastal Heritage Society is a non-profit organization devoted to preserving the history and culture of the coastal Georgia region. The goal of the shops is to interpret the history of the Railroads in Georgia and how they influenced the growth of the state. The site will preserve and interpret railroad building and artifacts using the primary example of the Central Railroad, later the Central of Georgia Railway. The site will also be a location for active public programming and a meeting place for the coastal community. The Roundhouse Railroad Museum now has permanent exhibits in five of the structures on the site. Included are steam engines, belt-driven machinery, locomotives and railroad rolling stock, and model railroad layouts. The Shops are open for self guided tours 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily.

The Southeastern Railway Museum occupies a 30-acre site in Duluth, Georgia, in northeast suburban Atlanta. Now in its 32nd year, SRM features about 90 items of rolling stock including historic Pullman cars and classic steam locomotives. Ride in restored cabooses behind steam or diesel locomotives, stand next to the massive driving wheels of the locomotive that once pulled passenger trains to Key West on the “railroad that went to sea,”....

The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

The museum is home to the 4-4-0 'American-type locomotive known as THE GENERAL built by Rodgers, Ketchum & Grosvenor in 1855 which took place in the epic U.S. Civil War event known as "the Greatt Locomotive Chase". The museum has recently undergone a $10 million dollar renovation and has become a Smithsonian Affiliate. It houses a major Civil War Artifact Collection and a complete full scale belt driven locomotive manufacturing factory (circa 1910) with all of the original machinery and technology as restored by Smithsonian technicians. New in July of 2004 is an interactive education center with a locomotive simulator,live telegraphy, audio and video kiosks and a "Big Shanty" station which focuses on children of pre-school and kindergarden ages.The museum is located directly along side of the main line of tracks from Atlanta to Chattanooga with over 100 trains passing per day. Kennesaw is approximately 20 miles north of Atlanta on Interstate 75.
