Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum

After a 13 year absence the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum has returned to the former New York New Haven and Hartford line between Lenox and Stockbridge in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. Operating over tracks now owned and used by the Housatonic Railroad of Connecticut, riders enjoy a historic narrative as the train travels 2-1/2 hours along the route of the Housatonic Railroad. Equipment includes vintage diesel power and 1920s coaches. A museum housed in a restored 1902 depot contains area railroading exhibits and two model train displays as well as a new Gilded Age museum with photos and artifacts from the turn of the last century.

Restored 1887 railroad gothic station cvontaining thousands of artifacts including telegraph equipment, tools, pictures, menus, passes,badges, maps, timetables and reports. Exhibits include the O scale locomotives made by Walthers of Chicago for the 1939 Worlds Fair and an HO scale diorama of the local railroad yard.

Since 1960, its founding year, 300,000 visitors have enjoyed the museum's exhibits including the 1910 wood caboose, a diorama of the Chatham Railroad Co. yard, O scale models of NYC locomotives built by Walthers Bros of Chicago for the 1939 World's Fair, telegraph equipment donated by Western Union,vintage photographs and paintings,and thousands of artifacts including sections of rail,lanterns, badges, clocks,apparel, tools,menus,passes,maps,timetables and reports.The museum maintains a 1,000 volume library. The museum is open mid June to Mid September Tues-Sat 10-4

The Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum, in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, is dedicated to preserving and operating Shelburne Falls & Colrain Street Railway Combine No. 10. This car was built by Wason Manufacturing Co. in Springfield MA in 1896. It was delivered new to Shelburne Falls and has never left the valley. For thirty years it served its namesake towns. We have a collection of railroad and trolley artifacts and pictures, as well as a 0-4-0T Baldwin steam locomotive , an ex-CV Caboose and several other pieces of rolling stock. The museum is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, funded by memberships and donations, and is open to the public.

THE Complete Source for New England Transportation History. We are a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, and are part of the Beverly Historical Society & Museum. We are primarily a research facilitiy with approximately 750,000 photographs, negatives & slides covering all forms of transportation in New England. The majority of our Collection covers New England railroads. Our facility also has a library of books, pamphlets, and periodicals, photograph files, oral history transcripts, transparencies, videos, films, CD's and DVD's, transportation advertisements, research sources, transportation maps, historical documents, models, and memorabilia displays. We are open to the public every Wed night from 7 pm to 10 pm (except between Christmas and New Years) and on Sat. by appointment.
