With the closure of Newfoundland’s railway in the 1980's, the Avondale Railway Station was shut down. The building itself, over 100 years old, has been declared a Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of NF & LAB. The Avondale Railway Station houses two museums: a community museum and a railway museum. The five-car static train display contains an operating dining and cook car. A mini-train is also in operation, offering visitors the chance to ride over the old narrow gauge track. The Railway Museum exhibits artifacts of life and work during the time that the railway was in operation in Newfoundland. The second floor contains a period bedroom and Newfoundland furniture.
