The rail museum just off N street in the heart of Barstow inside the old Barstow Station was a treat for me. Nothing exceptional . . but when you have equipment on display not normally seen elsewhere like the variety of old car jacks, best date nail collection anywhere, old MOW equipment in the 'yard', well it's worth a stopover. Take time to check the photos and scrapbooks of the local employees as well. There's some gems in those! And then, if you're bored, just meander over to the Route 66 Museum around the corner. Plus, you have the added attraction of mainline BNSF traffic out front . . and the big BNSF yard off Main Street not far away. And it was surprisingly railfan friendly if you behave yourself!
