I was very dissappointed when myself and my``family arrived. Nothing was operating except``for some scale model trains. I was told to``come back during Labor day weekend when all``the steam engines are working, but any other``time only the scale models are working``and are expensive to ride.`` Another attraction they have is on Halloween day when they take you on a haunted``train ride through the woods.

This is truly the Boys (and Girls) and their Toys. The last reviewer needs to bring his family on Memorial Day weekend or better yet....Labor Day. From the live steam models to the actual thing, you should walk away with an appreciation of all the work that must go in to this machinery. These people DONATE their time and expertise on the big stuff and the detail on the scale locomotives has to be seen to be believed. The smells, sights, and sounds will take you back. It is an annual mecca for gear-heads that like things that spin, hiss, turn, move, and whine.

My wife and three children visited the museum on Memorial Day. We enjoyed the museum, but felt that the tickets were too expensive. For the price of a ticket, you should be allowed to ride on all of the trains that are operating that day.

I don't think this is too expensive as noted in some of the reviews above, I don't think people understand just how much it costs to restore a steam locomotive. When we where there all three sizes of trains were running, including the green full size CSK. $5.00 per person is not bad and I am more than happy to pay to see these trains restored and running.

We have been to the museum 4 times and we still like going. We tell the kids they can pick one train to ride and then we enjoy it. We walk around the grounds and look at the old engines and then take a nice ride in the country.

The place is really starting to change . Have been there 5-6 times and allways steam engines of all sizes running. A bit expensive if you want to ride all the trains but you can buy season tickets.

I agree with one of the previous reviews that some people must not realize how much it costs to restore and even maintain and operate live steamers. These guys do a great job with what they have and the income that doesn't come from donations comes almost entirely from the big shows. There is an excellent variety of steam and other old power equipment to see, and you can still admire most of it, even if they are not operating it on the regular weekends. I don't know if they still let people into the engine house, but there are many fabulous locomotives at various stages of restoration too. A great treat whenever I am in the area.

I am a volunteer at the Hesston Steam Museum and I just want to make the comment to those of you that find it expensive to ride. I don't find $5 for adults $3 for childern all that expencive you have to relize that the money from the ticket sales and gift shop goes for the restration and preservation of all of are steam and diseal locomotives along with the cost of the coal, are advertising, and mainly the cost of insurance. We have 3 diffrent sizes of trains, with mutiple locomtives on each size it's rather expencive to maintain. I encourage you to come back and vist us any weekend from now till laborday or any sunday there after, take a train ride or 3 talk to one of our volunteers and find out about us and you will then relize why the prices are the way they are. All it is not a season ticket we have it is a Membership we encourage anyone that buys a membership to please come out and volunteer your time instead of just coming to ride trains. we can always use the help. If you would liek to contact me about the musuem or are operations please feel free to contact me at monkeymadness@isp.com subject hesston info. or vist are website hesston.org or hesstonvolunteers.com

What a great experience!! Where else can you see a steam powered crane, a steam driven saw mill, a steam power station, several steam tractors, and more steam railroad engines in various scales in one place? It was thermodynamics in the real world. My two grandsons loved it! Even my wife enjoyed it! And it wasn't expensive to boot.
