The Saginaw Valley Railroad Historical Society (SVRHS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1982. It is a small museum, operated by a small group of dedicated volunteers. The main building is the former Pere Marquette Railroad Depot from Hemlock, Michigan, which was moved 12 miles east down the track to Saginaw.````The building now houses small displays of museum artifacts that are changed from time-to-time. And, the basement houses the HO scale model railroad of the Saginaw Valley Model Railroad Club. The best thing is the collection of rolling stock on the museum tracks. They have an Alco RS-1 engine, several boxcars including a wood sided car, and several ex-C&O cabooses.````They have also moved and restored the Merson Tower, an 1890's vintage tower from several miles north. Though the exterior is restored, you cannot visit the interior due to lack of funds to construct a replacement stairway. The original semaphore of the depot building has also been restored trackside.````All together, a nice place to visit and see some different items. You should call ahead to determine when they are open, as the schedule is irregular (989-790-7994).
