This museum has potential for being a world class museum , but presently is just a train ride. So many unique cars rusting away while a few common cars are being nicely kept up. I'm not knocking them, as I know how it is with volunteers. You do what you can with what you have. Keep on pushing ahead folks!

my sons love trains, so we have started exploring train museums. I like the fact that they have so many different cars and you can get close to them, have photos taken on them and just let the kids explore. So many museums limit your access to the cars they have. Our museum in Savannah was better when it was more like Calera.

It's a pretty limited collection compared to, say, the technical museum in Stuttgart or the national Norwegian train museum in Hamar, but it's a nice place to visit, it's free, and I've been there many times in the past year since my son (and I) loves trains. It's certainly an admirable effort by the dedicated volunteers who put in the hours to do the work. I just wish there were more trains, models, interpretive displays etc.
