I've been to the Gold Coast RR Museum several times over the years and it just keeps getting better.````The Ferdinand Magellan which is their pride and joy has been immaculately restored as have several first generation diesels and a couple of steam locomotives dating from the 1920's. There's a myriad of other rolling stock in various stages of restoration.````The theme is Florida Railroading with emphasis on the FEC and ACL though other roads are represented.````You can visit rain or shine since most of the rolling stock is housed in a large newly constructed train shed that's open on all sides so it interferes with photography hardly at all while preserving the exhibits and you from the weather.````On weekends you can ride in the cab of a vintage diesel for a nominal extra fee. The engineer may even let you take the throttle if the trip is not too crowded.````There are indoor exhibits of memorabillia as well as model RR layouts in several scales.````There's also a snack bar with outdoor seating and a shop with souvenirs for all ages.````If you don't want to spend the whole day there it's right next to the Miami Metro Zoo which is one of the largest in the country.````I'm looking forward to my next trip there to see what's new. The museum has been growing slowly but steadily for several years and I expect them to continue adding exhibits.
