Few match up here! The State of NC and a group of volunteers have done and are doing a great job. Not just trains, but what else matters? Great roundhouse, daily rides, gift shop. Don't miss Rail Days! Plan to spend a day. Good food across street in downtown Spencer.

Potentially a great museum of transport. the auto/truck collection is small but very good. Railroad collection is small with some very good items.State legislature needs to fund roof for the huge backshop building. Best hobby shop in state is across the street. Good food in a couple of restraunts across the street also.

I was just passing through and was SOoooooo impressed that I remained in the area another day so I could go back!! Very complete, GREAT restorations, VERY friendly staff & volunteers. Convenient easy access from Charlotte. Even my teenage daughter who has little patience for this was blown away!! She went back 2 days later with some of her college friends for another look! I HIGHLY Recommend a visit!! There is adjacent & nearby mainline for Railfan watching and Historic Salsbury Depot just a couple of miles south with lots of contemporary train action. Great additions are planned and already taking shape! I plan to visit it whenever I'm in the area again. Can you tell I loved it or what ?????
