The Texas Transporation Museum was a disapointment. Mostly, this is a parking lot of withering rolling stock with no particular theme. Several clubs occupy space on the site but have little participation in collectively providing an experience for children or railfans. Poor running models and dusty, rusting railcars are all that's there to see. The switcher/ caboose train ride is not worth the drive. Stacks of used rail lay in the back 40 which all needs to be laid to make a fantrip worthwhile. The museum spur has been severed from the U.P. main so off site trips are not possible either. Volunteer / docents could use some lessons in manners and foul words were used by staff in preparation for a child's birthday party at the site. There was a sign near the office saying

My family and I drove from Georgia to San Antonio for a family vacation. While in San Antonio we visited the Texas Transportation Museum and had a wonderful time! The gentlemen working/volunteering at the museum were most informative and extremely friendly. My daughter absolutely loved the train ride that was given. As a matter of fact, we rode the train several times! Way to go, TTM! We enjoyed the wonderful time you showed us!

I disagree with the reviewer from April 2003.``We took our 3 grandkids AND their parents to the Texas Transportation Museum. Even the parents (who are in their 30's) enjoyed roaming through the pullman cars... no one but us, the oldies, had even been on a train before! Yes, the short train ride could be longer, but the volunteers don't have the funding to extend the tract. So, they offer what they can! We even rode the train twice! There is a wonderful outdoor model train display that is equal to almost any seen in indoor museums. There are also model train displays in one of the buildings.````We found the volunteers to be very friendly and more than willing to talk to the kids and answer any questions. It is obvious these guys have a love of railroading.
